Potter’s
Barge N 42°
53.655" 200' deep In 2006, local fishermen Ron and Heather Potter passed over a site that came up nearly 30 feet off the bottom. Concerned that it was a historic shipwreck, they contacted local divers to inspect the site. Know as Potter’s Barge, this site lies in about 200 feet of water and juts out from the bottom at a 30 degree angle, similar to the wreck site that Ann Arbor no. 5 car ferry. It was confirmed by divers that it was a flat top work or "deck barge",
probably scuttled in connection with construction or repairs of the Consumers Power Company, J. J. Campbell plant, at Port
Sheldon. While not an historic wreck, this barge does present some unique diving opportunities.
This site is usually not buoyed and is often difficult to grapple, although not impossible. The only real place to hook the wreck is around the edges. As always, only experienced divers should attempt to dive this site and safety is always a concern at these depths. |
